Frame 232 by Wil Mara

Frame 232 by Wil Mara

On November 22, 1963 in Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, a young woman waited anxiously to see the beloved young President and his beautiful wife!  That would be a day she would never forget!  Seeing the President shot and killed at such close range was a terrible sight in itself, but the events that followed in Mrs. Baker's life that day would haunt her for the rest of her days!

My favorite character in this book would definitely be Jason Hammond. The tormented billionaire struggles with in himself and turns away from God.  He feels that God is to blame for the misfortune in his life, but upon meeting a very unlikely man, he finds the truth. The truth that God is not there to harm us, but He loves us and wants nothing but good for us.  In his attempt to find the truth in the world, he helps many people on his journey.

Wil Mara does a wonderful job in creating suspenseful, I-can't-put-the-book-down descriptions! Mr. Mara introduces new characters and at first you are thinking, how does this person have anything to do with the main characters or the story line, then he pulls it all together!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction!  I enjoyed to book and look forward to reading more from Mr. Mara!

It's official!! We are home schooling!

It's Official!!
We are going to home school this year!

I have to tell you, it is really hard to be a parent sometimes! I know we all struggle with what is the right thing to do. We have to make decisions that we don't like to make, what if we are wrong??  Will we screw up our kids forever???    You know you have had that thought too!!
Well, our decision to home school was one of those decisions that we second guessed about a million times!  I just kept feeling this is what God was telling me to do.  My husband was not convinced.

Let me take a few steps backwards, in the last few months of school last year, it was announced that our small private Catholic school was going to close due to financial reasons.  We were devastated.  4 of our 5 children attended school there for the past 6 years.  My 13 yr old son has Aspergers.  He was diagnosed in the 3rd grade. He thrived at this school.  He had 9 kids in his class and they all loved him! Putting him into a public school was completely out of the question.  My 11 yr old son and my soon to be 10 yr old daughter had never been to any other school.  All their friends were there and they loved to the small class sizes.  My 8 yr old daughter has ADHD and Aspergers.  She also had never attended another school.  She was just starting to excel. Before we got her diagnosis she struggled academically.  I finally convinced my husband to let me give it shot.  Please pray for me and for my family as we start this journey!

I have attended a few home school meetings, and have meet some really wonderful people.  I have met several moms with Asperger kids that have turned to home schooling and just love it! I just know in my heart this is the right thing for my children, and I look forward to meeting many other families in the same situation.

I am excited to start this new chapter in our lives!  I would love to hear from you if you are home schooling... any advice???

Desperate Households by Kathy Peel

I read this book, Desperate Households by Kathy Peel, in hopes of getting some useful tips to help with my chaotic family life.  I definitely found much more in this book than a few helpful hints!

One thing I really liked about this book, is that it points out that we all don't have to have the same style in managing our families to be successful! Chapter 2 is all about how to identify what your style of family management.  I have tried for quiet some time to look at other mothers that are successful with their family management and I tried to duplicate what they did.  Some things would work, while others failed miserably!  In Kathy's book, she reminds us that everything needs to start with God, good time and bad.  We tend to only search for Him when things are going roughly and we forget in the midst all the controlled chaos that we should be reaching out to God everyday!

I am not saying this book is magic and everything is going to be wonderful now that I have read this book, but I will say it has given me a lot of hope and reassurance on how the future can be with my family.

The first thing we did was sit down as a family and write up some family rules.  We are still in the process of tweeking them, but this is what we have come up with so far.

1. Treat each other respectfully.  You don't always have to like each other, but you will always love each other, and you must treat each other with respect.  No name calling, no yelling, no hitting.
2. Respect each others things.  You may not touch or use someone else's things without permission.  No throwing a fit if they tell you no.
3. Pick up after yourself.  When you are done with something, put it away.  Put things away when you are told its time to clean up without complaining.
4. Take responsibility for your own actions. We all make mistakes; you will be in much less trouble if you take responsibility for your own actions.
5. Ask for forgiveness when you hurt or offend someone. Do this sincerely, not sarcastically.
6. Always knock before entering a closed door.  Respect others privacy and ask before entering someones room.
7. Delete the following from your vocabulary: Shut up, I hate you, butt head
(this one is an ongoing list.)
8. No whining or fit throwing.  When you are asked to help a sibling, do a chore, practice/homework do not throw a fit.  When we tell you no, do not keep asking, throw a fit or whine that its not fair, we don't tell you no because we want to torture you, we have to tell you no sometimes because we love you.

We have also created a family mission statement, we may need to tweek this as well.

To create a home full of love, that inspires creativity, comfort and relaxation. A home that is fun and inviting, where everyone feels safe from the outside world and can feel God's presence.

I highly recommend this book if you would like to improve upon your family management! Chapter 6. Morning Routine Makeover and Chapter 9 Clutter Makeover were two of my favorites and I can't wait to start putting them into action!

Happy reading!!!

The Hidden Boy by Jon Berkeley

The Flint family, a strange collection of relatives and friends, win a trip on Captain Bontoc's Blue Moon mobile for a grand holiday!
Once they arrive at Bell Hoot strange things come about!
Bea Flint finds that she is the only one that can save her brother!

Grab The Hidden Boy, a comfy seat and see if she is successful!!

I recently read this book, and I was pleasantly surprised.  At first I thought it was a little slow, and a little weird! :-)
However, once I got into the book, I didn't want to put it down!
Its got a lot of imagination and charm! a little mystery and some twists and turns!

I would recommend this book to a young reader, maybe 9-11 years old.
If you want an entertaining easy read, this is a great book.
If your child likes fantasy-mystery I think this would be a great book!

4th of July Family Fun!

I hope that you enjoyed the 4th with your family and friends like we did!!

We went to our local mall and danced the night away to one of our favorite local bands, BOOM! Kenetic!!
 Check them out at www.boomkenetic.com

The girls and my husband and I loved them!!!

I think they have a new "groupee"

The boys, however, were not as impressed....

Of course, we had to have snacks!
YUM-O!!!

Then it was time for fireworks to start...so we got out the noise cancelling headphones, turned on the tunes and put them on my sweet girls ears...  one giant BOOM!!  later....
And here we are in the van.  Boo.  Once safe inside the confines of the van, (did I mention we couldn't open the windows, so it was HOT in there) she sat in my lap NOT watching the fireworks.
The rest of the family, sat outside in their lawn chairs in the parking lot and watched with awe.

Happy Independence Day!!!!!

A trip to the Library!

This summer we have made a several trips to the public library.  Today was our trip this week!
My kids seem to devour books!  We all love reading, so we make frequent trips to the library!

We even have a special Thirty-one tote with Library Books embroidered on it just for our trips!!
Courtney like to bring her mega blocks barbie stuff to play with. She didn't want to sit with her siblings...she is funny.

We also ran into a sweet friend!  She volunteers at the library a couple times a week!  Such a sweet girl!!!

Love that my kids LOVE reading!!!!

Check back later for some book reviews!!!

My sweet girl likes to check out her books all by herself!
